TUNE ON A DISTANT HILL “Tune on a Distant Hill” is a a bespoke, community-devised performance commissioned by the Chandler Center for the Arts with and for the Randolph, Vt community. Performers from Strike Anywhere will perform a residency to collectively devise the piece with community members. The performance will then be performed by local residents alongside Strike Anywhere’s professional ensemble of jazz musicians, dancers and actors. The performance will be Soundpainted. |

| Soundpainting is the universal sign language for live composition with improvisers. A conductor signs to the ensemble – offering parameters within which to improvise. The performers respond by improvising according to the signed gestures. The technique is employed in over 33 countries worldwide. Strike Anywhere is the preeminent ensemble in the United States practicing the performance technique.The performance will be followed by a post-show facilitated dialogue, allowing audience members to engage in meaningful conversations on topics raised by the performance. Ways to get engaged in local efforts will be on hand for audience members who feel so inclined. |
